A senior member of Europe’s main human rights body launched an outspoken attack on the Russian Federation’s elections on Friday, three weeks before they take place, saying he had serious doubts that they would be free, fair, open, democratic or transparent. The threat of serious flooding along England’s east coast receded on Friday after officials said the main tidal peak had passed, although storms were still causing problems elsewhere in Europe. High seas still threatened The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway and Sweden.
