Students to march at UJ on Friday

A march in protest against fee hikes and police shootings will take place at the University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Kingsway Campus on Friday, students said. ”We are asking for a peaceful and disciplined march; we cannot allow the police to shoot us again,” a protesting student said on Thursday. The march will start at 9am.

Tests start on non-English web addresses

Sample addresses in nearly a dozen languages will be added to the internet’s central directories as early as this week, paving the way for web surfers around the world to get online without knowing any English. At this point, the 11 domain names are meant primarily for software developers and website designers to test the new system.

Battle the bulge with the Wii balance board

Couch potatoes beware: Wii owners will be able to get an even more vigorous workout from December when Nintendo launches a new fitness balance board for its hit video-game console. The ”Wii Fit” board and software can be used for exercising, sports and games including yoga, virtual snowboarding, ski-jumping and aerobics.

Sun, Samsung to compete with iPhone

Sun Microsystems and Samsung are jointly developing a cellphone to challenge Apple Inc.’s iPhone, a South Korean newspaper reported on Wednesday, quoting Sun chairperson Scott McNealy. McNealy said on Tuesday in Seoul that the companies are working on a ”Java phone” that would surpass Apple’s iPhone in functionality.
