Malaysia said on Monday it will build three plants to produce biodiesel from palm oil, as part of efforts to reduce its dependency on petroleum as oil prices continue to soar on the world market. "Palm biodiesel is set to become a viable alternative to petroleum diesel," Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Peter Chin Fah Kui told an international palm oil congress in Kuala Lumpur.

About 4 000 delegates from around the world gathered at the Coca-Cola Dome in Northgate, Johannesburg, on Sunday night to attend the opening of the 18th World Petroleum Congress. A 24-year-old United States citizen was found murdered at a Pretoria school
on Saturday, police said on Monday. Edward Rector was found in a classroom at the Ubuntu Private School in Boschkop on Saturday morning, Inspector Anton Breedt said.

The Government Printing Works (GPW) which prints identity documents and passports could collapse if state departments failed to pay about R150-million that it is owed, media reports said on Monday. GPW chief executive Tom Moyane warned of the possibility of closure, saying ageing printing machinery needed millions of rand to replace.
