Trying to get child maintenance is no easy task. My son Sam was born in March last year. Boxing enthusiast Grant Germanus says it was not too long ago that the noble art of boxing in South Africa was mentioned in the same breath as soccer and rugby. Germanus (35) is an avid enthusiast whose history dates back to his great uncle Vic Toweel, who was the first South African world champion in 1949.

Blue Bulls coach Heyneke Meyer sounded an ominous warning to his Cheetahs counterpart, Peet Kleynhans, on Wednesday, ahead of the Absa Currie Cup final at the weekend. ”We haven’t yet peaked this season and I think we can reach our full potential in the final,” Meyer said, after naming his team for the final.

An investigative journalist who has become a key witness in the scandal over why two of Greece’s top athletes withdrew from the Athens Olympics has been stabbed and beaten with crowbars, in what his editor has called an ”assassination attempt”. The assault, which occurred as the reporter left a radio station, provoked a storm of protest.

Manchester United edged closer to a place in the second round of the Champions League with a goalless draw against Sparta Prague in their Group D game on Tuesday. Ariel Sharon, the Israeli prime minister, is in danger of assasination at the hands of Jewish extremists, claims Shimon Peres, leader of the opposition Labour party. The atmosphere in Israel was similar to the political turmoil of 1995 when the then prime minister Yitzhak Rabin was murdered by a religious nationalist, he said.
