Gandhi’s legacy is for all South Africans

It is unfortunate that there should be controversy over Mahatma Gandhi’s role in South Africa. It is based primarily on Gandhi’s earlier, somewhat dismissive and casual remarks that could be considered derogatory towards a section of the local people, regardless of what Gandhi’s intention may have been.

Give England a break

When Richard Hill left England’s victorious press conference after Sunday night’s 24-7 semifinal win over fancied France, he said: ”What a waste of fucking time, let’s get out of here.” Hill, back after an injury, was barely questioned about his miracle comeback. Instead, the press conference was all about their supposed weaknesses.

Liberia advance in African World Cup

Liberia erased a two-goal deficit to beat Gambia 3-2 on aggregate and advanced to the second round of the African World Cup qualifying on Sunday. Ghana took a 5-0 lead after the first leg of their series against Somalia. Isaac Tondo scored two goals in the second half as Liberia blanked Gambia 3-0 in the second match after losing in the first leg.

France will take the third/fourth place clash with New Zealand extremely seriously despite the disappointment of crashing out to England in the semifinals, coach Bernard Laporte said on Monday. ”It is still a match between the French and the All Blacks,” said Laporte.
