The fierce struggle to combat apartheid in the years before its demise and in the ongoing fight against its residual effects sometimes, however, loses sight of the fact that the root causes of apartheid evil lay deeper than its manifestation. Human greed, exclusion and unbridled power continue to manifest themselves, writes Charles Villa-Vicencio.
This column has championed the use of computers and the web for quite some time now. When used correctly, internet-connected computers offer teachers and learners an enormous store of knowledge – larger than any library – and a number of tools to manipulate and use the information.
<b>Age (if you don’t mind)?</b>
For many years I trained grade 10, 11 and 12 learners to use accounting software and saw numerous matriculants who successfully passed the programme getting snapped up by employers immediately after school. Most of these youngsters found employment in the accounting departments of cash-based businesses or in companies such as Game, Edgars, Woolworths and First National Bank.
