What’s an ex-president to do?

After leaving the Union Buildings in 2009, President Thabo Mbeki is likely to continue his peace-building efforts in Africa through a foundation set up for the purpose. According to Smuts Ngonyama, Mbeki’s aide, the president is considering numerous options on how to spend his time after 2009.

Lekota’s son on race war

”He swore at me, took a gun out of his cubbyhole and pointed it at me, saying: ‘This is my farm and on my farm blacks are workers and I will show you who is the baas here.”’ This is the story of Kotane Lekota, who studied at the University of the Free State. The incident took place on campus two years ago.

Where are South Africa’s good men?

Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka on Sunday called on men to take up their responsibility in the war against violence against women and children and the scourge of HIV/Aids. Mlambo-Ngcuka, speaking at the Fourth Treatment Action Campaign’s national congress at the Birchwood Hotel, said: ”When good men are silent, they become part of the problem.”

Pirates crash out to Santos

Santos had goalkeeper Wayne Roberts to thank as they advanced through to the last 16 of the Nedbank Cup after beating Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties at the Athlone Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Roberts made saves three times in the shoot-out after the match had ended 2-2 after full-time.
