Snow forces BA to cancel 114 flights at Heathrow

After nearly two weeks of baggage chaos and hundreds of cancelled flights, London Heathrow airport was hit by bad weather on Sunday, which forced British Airways (BA) to cancel 114 flights. Two runways at Heathrow were briefly closed for de-icing as snow fell in London and air-traffic control reduced the number of take-off and landing slots.

BA calls in help to move T5 baggage mountain

British Airways drafted in extra staff on Sunday to shift 15 000 items of baggage built up since the disastrous opening of its showcase terminal at London’s Heathrow Airport. With nearly 250 flights cancelled since Thursday’s opening of the ,6-billion Terminal Five (T5) and more cancellations due in coming days, the airline could not say when matters would return to normal.

New Heathrow terminal to be shoppers’ paradise

It has taken two decades to plan, 20 000 workers to build and cost an unprecedented £4,3-billion. But until now, the doors to the retail space at Terminal 5, at London’s Heathrow airport, which opens next month, have been firmly closed to the media, amid criticisms that the terminal is destined to be little more than a glorified shopping mall.

UK airport strike talks to resume

Union leaders are to hold new talks with the British Airports Authority (BAA) on Monday in an attempt to avert a series of strikes that could cause widespread travel chaos in January. A BAA spokesperson said the talks will take place at an undisclosed location after negotiations last week failed to solve the dispute over pensions.
