You want fries with that? YES!

The Swiss government has agreed to ease restrictions on the importation of potatoes following fears that Euro 2008 soccer fans could face a shortage of French fries next month. A spokesperson for the country’s department of agriculture told national radio on Wednesday that the government would allow an additional 5 000 tonnes of potatoes to be brought in.

UN pledges action on world food crisis

United Nations agencies and the World Bank pledged urgent action on Tuesday to tackle an unprecedented rise in global food prices that is hurting developing countries. The international bodies called on countries not to restrict exports of food to secure supplies at home, warning that could only make the problem worse.

Kenya facing new Fifa sanctions

Kenya’s football federation is once again facing the threat of suspension by world governing body Fifa over renewed allegations of political interference by the country’s government. Kenya was banned from all international competitions last October for breaching international agreements and for protracted problems in its troubled federation.
