Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili declared victory on Thursday in a parliamentary election that the opposition said was rigged in his favour and vowed to challenge by calling street protests. Saakashvili said Wednesday’s vote was fair, but the rigging allegations and the threat of protests will test his claim to lead the most democratic state in the region.
Taiwan’s opposition Nationalist Party’s (KMT) presidential candidate, Ma Ying-jeou, has won more than half the vote in Saturday’s election, the party said, auguring improved ties with diplomatic rival China. Ma had won more than seven million votes, the party said, more than half the total 13-million people who cast their ballot.

A party controlled by Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiyev won a huge majority in a snap parliamentary election, early official results showed on Monday, although opposition parties complained of fraud. Bakiyev’s Ak Zhol party won 47% of Sunday’s vote, the Central Election Commission said on its website.

President Vladimir Putin appeared to be heading for a landslide victory in Russia’s parliamentary elections on Sunday night amid widespread reports that millions of citizens were coerced into voting for his party, United Russia. Early results from the Central Election Commission indicated the party was leading with 63% of votes.
Orange Revolution supporters claimed victory over allies of Ukraine’s prime minister in a snap parliamentary election, but the two camps face tough talks on Monday to forge a viable coalition. President Viktor Yushchenko dissolved Parliament in April, accusing his rival, Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich, of a grab for power.
