Bok coach finally puts pen to paper

Newly appointed Springbok coach Peter de Villiers finally signed his contract on Friday after weeks of refusing to sign over contractual disagreements. ”The agreement between De Villiers and SA Rugby was signed at our headquarters in Newlands earlier today [Friday],” said SA Rugby in a statement.

Smith confident SA can ‘do the job’

South Africa captain Graeme Smith on Tuesday voiced confidence his team can ”do the job” against India despite arriving with only 13 players. The tourists have been badly hit by the race selection row while left-arm spinner Robin Peterson has delayed his arrival due to personal reasons. The three-Test series starts on Wednesday.

Windies claim historic victory

The West Indies made history at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Saturday when they beat South Africa in the first Test by 128 runs with a day to spare. It was their first Test victory in South Africa, and their first away win against a team ranked above them since they beat England in 2000. They outplayed the home side in all departments.

SA crumble against Windies attack

Fast bowlers Daren Powell and Jerome Taylor struck hard at the South African top order as the tourists took control on the second day of the first Test at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth on Thursday. South Africa crashed to 122-5 at close of play in reply to a West Indian total of 408 in which Shivnarine Chanderpaul made a patient century.

SA snatch win from New Zealand

An undefeated 52 by AB de Villiers helped South Africa to a three-wicket victory over New Zealand in the Standard Bank Pro20 at the Wanderers on Friday night. Needing 130 to win, South Africa made 131 for seven, with a ball to spare. New Zealand will rue their dropped catches, especially a De Villiers drop.

Yousuf leads Pakistan to victory

Mohammad Yousuf hit a brilliant century to lead Pakistan to a 25-run victory over South Africa in a day-night international in Lahore on Saturday and level the series 1-1. Yousuf’s 143-ball 117 ensured Pakistan posted a fighting 265-9 before the home team overcame poor fielding to restrict the SA to 240 in 49.3 overs.

South Africa cruise against Bangladesh

Bangladesh’s batsmen launched a ferocious attack on South Africa’s bowlers but were unable to bat out their 20 overs in a Twenty20 World Championship match at Newlands in Cape Town on Saturday. South Africa cruised to a seven-wicket win after Bangladesh were bowled out for 144 in 19.3 overs after being sent in.
