Radio station in trouble for creamy prank

A Danish commercial radio station is under fire for organising a prank encouraging listeners to squelch cream cakes on staff at a bakery, reports said on Wednesday. The Voice offered listeners 10 000 kroner (about R10 000) if they went to a bakery, bought a cream cake and dumped it on the head of the salesperson.

What Danes do at Christmas time

Sales in Denmark of the anti-impotence drug Viagra and similar products are predicted to soar during the festive season, according to sex advisers and drug company spokespersons. In 2003, sales of such drugs increased 17% in December on the November figures, the group Danish Drug Information was quoted as saying in a newspaper.

Watch out for high-tech flashers

Danish users of third-generation cellphones have been advised to consider precautions to avoid being harassed by flashers using the new technology, the Danish National Consumer Agency said on Tuesday. The new high-speed technology that allows users to send and receive video clips also attracts abuse.

Lightning bolt kills record number of cows

A record number of cows were killed on Tuesday when lightning hit a farm near Herning on Jutland, reports said Thursday. The 31 cows were likely the highest number to date killed by a single lightning bolt in Denmark, TV-Midt-Vest reported, citing a joint information office operated by Danish insurance companies.

Thousands throng for Danish royal wedding

Tens of thousands of Danes were pouring into Copenhagen’s downtown area from midday on Friday to watch the horse-drawn wedding procession of Crown Prince Frederik and Tasmanian-born commoner Mary Donaldson. Police reckoned with well more than 100 000 spectators through a sea of Danish and Australian flags.
