China is likely to establish a holiday to mark what it calls the ”liberation” of Tibetan serfs, state media said on Monday.
With the Olympics only months away, 100 Tibetan refugees set off on a march to Tibet from India on Monday, to protest what they see as China’s illegal occupation of their homeland. Organisers said several thousand people, Tibetans, Indians and Westerners, accompanied the marchers as they set off from the Indian town of Dharamsala.

A group of chanting Buddhist monks is in line for a Grammy Award, and exiles from Tibet hope the nomination will raise Western awareness of Tibetan culture and their homeland’s plight under Chinese rule. "Any avenue to create more awareness is positive," a Tibetan political activist said.

China has executed 81 Tibetan political prisoners in the past 16 years and another 208 Tibetans are in detention awaiting the same fate, a human rights group said on Tuesday.
A Tibetan activist group denounced a UN committee’s rejection of its participation in a summit on sustainable development, accusing China of desperately trying to prevent any criticism.
