The Constitutional Court has agreed that the legislation governing the Hawks does not provide adequate independence for the corruption-busting unit.
The foundation has been trying to obtain access to the JSC’s full discussions in a bid to determine on what grounds judges are chosen.
Given the core role of the judiciary, the Helen Suzman Foundation wants to know exactly how appointments to the Bench are decided.

The state has identified a list of 218 witnesses it intends calling to testify in its case against African National Congress (ANC) president Jacob Zuma. Attached to the indictment, filed in the Pietermaritzburg High Court, the list of witnesses includes Independent Democrat party leader Patricia de Lille and former ANC MP Andrew Feinstein.
