Louis Oosthuizen and Trevor Immelman, the only South Africans in the field, both shone at the McGladrey Classic in the United States at the weekend.
South Africa’s Hennie Otto mastered buffeting gusts that interrupted the Madeira Islands Open second round for a time on Friday to surge into a five-stroke lead.
Otto lies 10-under-par 134 after a second five-under 67. The 31-year-old, looking for a win to regain his tour card, pitched in for an eagle-two after nearly driving the 10th green.
Hennie Otto moved into a share of the lead with Ernie Els only one behind him, in a solid second round for the South Africans at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St Andrews on Friday. Playing the Old Course under blue skies and bright sunshine, Otto posted a bogey-free 67 to share the lead with Peter O’Malley and Nick Dougherty on 11 under.
