Democrat Barack Obama said on Friday he would fine-tune his United States presidential campaign and remind voters of his humble roots after a defeat in Pennsylvania fuelled in part by his failure to win over working-class voters. Safin in shock after loss to SA outsider

Marat Safin crashed out of the ATP Indianapolis Open in spectacular style on Wednesday, falling in straight sets to world number 512 Wesley Whitehouse of South Africa. Safin, the two-time Grand Slam champion from Russia, held his head in his hands as he tried to explain what when wrong in a 6-1, 6-4, second-round loss to the 27-year-old journeyman.

Schumacher tops in incident-filled US Grand Prix

Michael Schumacher cruised to his third win of the season in the United States Grand Prix on Sunday as he led home a Ferrari one-two after an incident-filled race. Schumacher beat Felipe Massa by 7,9 seconds as he took a record fifth win at the Indianapolis circuit and cut Spaniard Fernando Alonso’s lead in the World Championship to 19 points.

Moodie continues winning streak

South African Wesley Moodie beat the heat on Monday in a steamy struggle over Jean-Rene Lisnard of France 6-3, 6-3 to reach the second round of the  000 RCA Championships in Indianapolis. Moodie was the surprise winner of the Wimbledon doubles title this month, alongside Australian Stephen Huss.

‘It’s not a great day for Formula One’

Ferrari’s Michael Schumacher emerged with the victory in a United States Grand Prix that fell little short of farce on on Sunday after the withdrawal of 14 Formula One cars running on suspect Michelin tyres left only six cars in the race. All seven of the teams supplied by Michelin formed up on the grid, but were back in the pits at the end of the warm-up lap.

Dan Wheldon wins Indy 500

Dan Wheldon overcame an electrifying run by Danica Patrick and ended 35 years of fabled Andretti bad luck to win the Indianapolis 500 on Sunday. Wheldon took team co-owner Michael Andretti with him to Victory Lane, ending years of frustration for the Andretti family, which last got a taste of the Indy winner’s jug of milk when Michael’s father, Mario, won in 1969.

Eli Lilly to post results of drug trials online

Responding to an ”erosion” of public trust in drug trial data, Eli Lilly promised to post online the research results — good and bad — for every drug it sells. Lilly said it will provide clinical data on the safety and effectiveness of each of its government-approved drugs on the internet by the end of the year.
