Zambia on Wednesday became the first AU member to call for Madagascar’s suspension from the bloc after Marc Ravalomanana was toppled as president.
The end is in sight for negotiations between Zimbabwe’s rival leaders, President Thabo Mbeki told the SADC summit in Johannesburg on Saturday.

A 13-hour summit in Lusaka also called on President Robert Mugabe to ensure that a possible run-off presidential vote be held ”in a secure environment”.
