England beat New Zealand by 121 runs

Monty Panesar returned Test-best figures of six for 126 as England beat New Zealand by 121 runs in the third cricket Test on Wednesday and clinched the three-match series 2-1. Off-spinner Panesar completed his seventh five-wicket haul in Tests, claiming three of the five wickets to fall on the final day, hastening New Zealand’s dismissal for 431 as it chased 553 for victory.

England on brink of series win over NZ

Monty Panesar took England to the brink of a series victory as New Zealand slumped to 222-5, 330 runs in arrears at stumps on the fourth day of the third cricket Test on Tuesday. With New Zealand set a record target of 553 to win, Stephen Fleming and Matthew Bell provided stout resistance for the second wicket before Panesar removed both batsmen.

Rain threatens to beat all in New Zealand Test

A classy 83 from Brian Lara and an unbeaten 70 from Runako Morton carried the West Indies to 256 for four against New Zealand before further rain brought an early end to the second day of the third and final cricket Test in Napier on Sunday. Only 78 overs have been possible in the first two days, and with more rain forecast over coming days, the chance of an outright decision is becoming remote.

Lara searches for form in third Test

Brian Lara’s battle against a form slump brightened an autumn gloom on the first day of the third cricket Test between New Zealand and the West Indies on Saturday. Only 27.2 overs were bowled on a day which started more than five hours late because of a saturated outfield and ended an hour early because of bad light, but the hour and 49 minutes that intervened belonged to Lara.

Tests within a Test to wrap West Indies, NZ series

The West Indies are hoping for a massive reversal of fortunes in the final Test against New Zealand in Napier on Saturday while the hosts are looking to pull off a clean sweep in preparation for their expected tough tour of South Africa. Despite their 10-wicket loss in the second Test in Wellington being the West Indies’ eighth successive defeat, coach Bennett King claimed his team’s spirits were still intact.
