Hundreds of firefighters were battling a large blaze that broke out on Sunday on a back lot at Universal Studios, site of movie and television production, a spokesperson for a neighbouring fire department said. Burbank firefighter David Ortiz said that about 200 firefighters and two helicopters had been deployed to assist the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Universal Studios and its partners will build a 2,9-trillion won (,1-billion) theme park in South Korea by 2012, its largest project in terms of investment size. The park, spanning 4,7-million square metres and featuring hotels, golf courses and rides based on popular movies and TV shows, would be similar in scale to the Universal Orlando Resort in Florida

United States television network NBC will start offering limited free downloads of shows such as Heroes and The Office as part of its bid to expand the digital distribution of its programmes and compete with Apple’s iTunes Store, the network announced.
