The New York Giants didn’t blink. They stared down Tom Brady and the New England Patriots on Sunday and came away with one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history. It was the biggest Super Bowl upset since Joe Namath’s upstart New York Jets upended the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl 3.

West Indies batting great Brian Lara leads the star parade at a rebel Twenty20 League that kicks off on Friday in India after stirring up a storm with officialdom. The inaugural Indian Cricket League, fronted by India’s own cricketing legend Kapil Dev, will be played at Panchkula, an industrial town on the outskirts of the northern Indian city of Chandigarh.

If ever there were a case of a sport taking itself too seriously, it arrived in Paris last week, when the geniuses who regard themselves as the guardians of the sport’s morals fined the McLaren team -million (about R700-million). It was grandstanding on a ludicrous scale.
