Mabuza too good for Argentinian tornado

South Africa’s highest-rated boxer, Silence Mabuza, silenced raging Argentinean tornado Damien Marchiano to retain his IBO world bantamweight title with a rousing fifth-round TKO win on Saturday night. Although relatively slightly built, even for the bantamweight division, Marchiano performed more like a raging bull from the Pampas at the opening bell.

Machimana can win world title, says Berman

South African heavyweight boxing champion Osborne ”Big Daddy” Machimana (29) can go on to win a world heavyweight title. So says Golden Gloves promoter Rodney Berman after the giant from Limpopo smashed former two-time world champion Corrie Sanders to the canvas for the full count on Saturday night at Emperors Palace.

Clash of the heavyweights to come

Two of the country’s best heavyweights, Corrie Sanders and Osborne Machimana, will clash at Emperors Palace on February 2 next year, it was announced by promoter Rodney Berman on Tuesday. The tantalising showdown for Machimana’s South African heavyweight title will head a boxing extravaganza.

Mashaba retains title with killer blow

Thomas ”Merciless” Mashaba showed no mercy to retain his IBO world featherweight title with a ninth-round tko victory over the United States’s two-time former champion Eric Aiken on the Lords of the Ring boxing bill at Emperors Palace on Monday night. Also, Cassius Baloyi gained a narrow revenge victory over Gairy St Clair.
