Tearful Kuerten ends Paris love affair

Gustavo Kuerten briefly rekindled his Parisian love affair on Sunday before bidding a tearful farewell to the French Open. The Brazilian has enjoyed a special relationship with Roland Garros since he celebrated his third and final triumph in 2001 by drawing a giant love-heart in the red clay with his racket.

Roddick, Mauresmo crash out of Aussie Open

Sixth seed Andy Roddick was knocked out of the Australian Open after a bad-tempered five-setter early on Saturday, joining 2006 champion Amelie Mauresmo on the third-round scrapheap. The American fell on his sword after a marathon three hours and 53 minutes of intense tennis against German 29th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.

Tall order for Isner against Federer

World number one Roger Federer faces a lofty challenge in his bid for a fourth straight US Open title when he takes on wildcard John Isner in the third round on Saturday. Former champion Andy Roddick and women’s title holder Maria Sharapova are also in action but Federer could have the toughest match.
