Four-goal Mashego takes United to the top

SuperSport United went to the top of the Absa Premiership table after thrashing Moroka Swallows 4-2 at the Super Stadium on Saturday night, courtesy of four goals by substitute Katlego Mashego. Swallows’ Sandile Ndlovu scored first in the 59th minute, but two minutes later Mashego started his four-goal blitz.

Ajax dealt a severe blow

Ajax Cape Town’s hopes of winning the Absa Premiership were dealt a massive blow at Atteridgeville’s Super Stadium on Wednesday night when defending champions Sundowns crushed the Urban Warriors 2-0. Sundowns led the match 2-0 at half-time.

Chiefs trounce Swallows

Kaizer Chiefs moved into the top half of the Absa Premiership table after walloping Moroka Swallows 3-1 in a league match at a packed Olympia Park Stadium in Rustenburg on Sunday. Mabhuti Khenyeza, Jonathan Quartey and Thuso Phala scored for Chiefs, while Swallows’ lone goal came from the boot of James Chamanga.

No goals for Swallows, Cosmos

The small, if noisy, crowd at the Oppenheimer Stadium in Orkney on Sunday afternoon was indicative of what those who stayed away anticipated from the soulless zero-all Premier Soccer League draw between Moroka Swallows and Jomo Cosmos. The teams stuttered their way through 90 minutes of ungainly soccer.

Birds beat Celtic 3-1 in last-minute thriller

The Birds left it late — then swooped to a scintillating 3-1 Absa Premiership win over Bloemfontein Celtic with three goals in the last ten minutes of play. After Malawian defender Patrick Mabedi had equalised for Moroka Swallows, with a superbly timed header in the 79th minute, the team completed their scoring spree with late goals from substitutes Sandile Ndlovu and Alfred Phiri.

SuperSport, Wits get the points

SuperSport United beat Moroka Swallows 2-1 in their Premier Soccer League game played at Germiston Stadium on Friday night, and Bidvest Wits beat Bloemfontein Celtic 2-0 in their match. Part of the game in Germiston was played in heavy rain and referee Robert Smith was forced to stop the match for 15 minutes.

Swallows, Leopards can learn from Boks

After watching — and fanatically celebrating — the Springboks’ emphatic victory in the Rugby World Cup final, the Premier Soccer League game between Moroka Swallows and Black Leopards on Sunday paled in comparison. A 91st-minute goal had Swallows coach Ian Gorowa obviously relieved at getting the three points.

Chiefs win 3-1 in penalty shoot-out

Kaizer Chiefs tempted fate and won a blood-and-thunder, error-infested Telkom Knockout game against Moroka Swallows by a 3-1 penalty shoot-out margin after the teams had finished level 2-2 after extra-time at Loftus on Saturday night. In truth, the Amakhosi should have had their place in the quarterfinals signed and sealed in the opening period against an amateurish, out-of-touch Swallows.
