Bangladesh in race to save cyclone survivors

Soldiers and relief workers raced on Monday to get aid to millions left destitute by the cyclone in Bangladesh, where the official death toll has topped 3 100 and is certain to rise. Untold numbers of survivors were in urgent need of food and water in the south, one of the poorest areas of the world.

Militants to be put to death for Bangladesh bombings

A court sentenced 21 Islamic militants to death on Tuesday for their part in a deadly wave of blasts that saw more than 400 bombs explode almost simultaneously across Bangladesh last year. The bombings killed three people and rocked a nation which had previously denied having a serious problem with extremism.
