The Financial Services Board (FSB) is investigating South African information technology company CS Holdings for alleged insider trading, the board confirmed on Tuesday. "I can confirm that we are looking at the insider trading allegations but am not in a position to discuss further details," an FSB spokesperson said.

Zimbabwe’s inflation broke to new levels in January, rising to 622,8% from 598,7% in December 2003, Standard Bank said in its research brief on Thursday. The rise followed a respite in December. The country’s inflation is forever on the rise, and is expected to reach 800% before April.

Inflation in Lesotho and Swaziland managed to ease from double digits in 2002 to around 7% in 2003, tracking South African economic patterns. Lesotho’s average annual inflation rate dropped to 7,2% in 2003 from 11,3% in 2002 mainly due to an increase in consumer prices by 0,1% year on year in December.

Gauteng province has become the first province to switch on to Sentech’s broadband wireless (BBW) high-speed, no-limit internet access via regulated high-powered radio frequency, Sentech announced on Friday. Sentech launched its affordable BBW service, also known as MyWireless, in Gauteng on January 19.
The JSE Securities Exchange South Africa (JSE) looks set to open on a stronger note on Thursday despite a firmer rand. At 0851, all share index futures (Alsis) were up 62 points after 470 contracts had traded. Industrial index futures (Indis) were yet to trade.
