Deputy president Kgalema Motlanthe met with leadership of the SA National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) on Friday ahead of discussions over the media
The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) held "tense" talks with the ANC in Johannesburg on Thursday about a proposed media appeals tribunal.
The SABC board has moved to suspend CEO Solly Mokoetle, it emerged on Tuesday.
The government is concerned about negative foreign coverage of its perceived attempts to place restrictions on the press, a spokesperson has said.
Sanef is willing to talk about improving self-regulation, but does not appreciate the public slamming of the media by ANC officials.

The SA National Editors’ Forum has expressed outrage at reports that journalists are on a hit list targeting corruption-busters in Mpumalanga.
The GCIS has demanded the retraction of a statement by Sanef alleging the media was barred from a stadium visit by President Jacob Zuma.
Sanef has condemned the privileged accreditation to four journalists who accompanied President Jacob Zuma on a tour of Durban’s Moses Mabhida Stadium.
It’s excellent for society that journalists’ safety is addressed by editors and enshrined by a statutory body.
