Sanparks has revealed that 52 rhinos have been poached in South Africa so far this year — mostly in Limpopo and Kruger National Park.
Parliament’s portfolio committee on water and environmental affairs is set to begin its public hearings on how best to combat rhino poaching.
Two suspected poachers have been shot and killed in the Kruger Park during an anti-poaching operation after the discovery of eight dehorned rhinos.
The number of rhinos poached in South Africa has reached a record high, with 341 of the endangered animals killed this year alone, the WWF says.

South Africa lost 333 rhinos to poaching in 2010, the highest number ever recorded, the country’s parks agency said on Wednesday.
Extreme cold, wind and heavy rain has killed 600 African penguin chicks on Bird Island, a reserve in Algoa Bay near Port Elizabeth.
Rhino poaching had escalated at an "alarming rate" since the beginning of the year, South African National Parks said on Friday.

A 12-year-old boy drowned and a 65-year-old man is missing in flooding caused by heavy rains in the Southern Cape, police said on Friday. Captain Malcolm Pojie said the young boy from Harkerville, about 5km to 10km outside Plettenberg Bay, was playing with friends along the banks of a river swollen by rain when he was swept downstream.
