Members of the ANC Youth League can’t claim they didn’t anticipate the reaction they got when they announced their campaign to ban the selling of liquor on Sunday. Religious groups, particularly Christians who regard Sunday as the day of worship, have welcomed the campaign. Liquor traders and others inclined towards civil liberties have stopped short of accusing the Youth League of being drunk.

Apple has already made waves with its iPod, iPhone and trendy desktop computers, but on Tuesday night the company threw out a new challenge to its competitors, the world’s thinnest laptop. The secretive Silicon Valley company confirmed the launch of the  352 (R16 061) Macbook Air, which measures just 2cm deep.

Girding for a potential threat from Apple, online DVD rental service Netflix is lifting its limits on how long most subscribers can watch movies and television shows over high-speed internet connections. The change will become effective on Monday, on the eve of Apple’s widely anticipated move into the movie rental industry.
After Microsoft founder and chairperson Bill Gates gave what he said was his last keynote address to the Consumer Electronics Show late on Sunday night, it’s worth bearing in mind that he has often been dramatically wrong about where he thought technology was heading.

Apple’s fiscal fourth-quarter profits jumped 67% to cap a year that saw unprecedented momentum in its Macintosh computer business, continued demand for iPods and the successful launch of the iPhone. For the three months that ended September 30, Apple said on Monday it earned -million, or ,01 per share.

Environmentalist lawyers are threatening to sue Apple in 60 days if the iconic United States company doesn’t make iPhones greener or warn buyers of toxins in the devices. The Centre for Environmental Health sent Apple notice on Monday after Greenpeace released a scientific analysis of how Earth-friendly iPhones are.
