Judgement reserved on Judge Motata video

The Pretoria High Court on Tuesday reserved judgement in an application by Judge Nkola John Motata to stop the state from playing five potentially incriminating video and audio recordings made at the scene of his car accident. Motata was charged with drunk driving and defeating the ends of justice after smashing his Jaguar.

Gibbs bounces back

Herschelle Gibbs, who has been going through a lean period in recent weeks, bounced back on Wednesday, making an unbeaten 74 to take the Cape Cobras to a massive seven-wicket victory over the Lions in their MTN Domestic Championship match at the Wanderers.

Cobras ease past Lions

The Cape Cobras cruised to a third successive victory in the MTN Domestic Championship at Newlands on Wednesday, beating the Lions by six wickets with four overs to spare. The Lions won the toss and elected to bat first. Stephen Cook and stand-in captain Alviro Petersen got them off to a flying start with a partnership of 61 off 79 balls.

Mixed fortunes at Potch athletics meet

The second meeting of the Yellow Pages Ultimate Athletics series, held at the PUK McArthur Stadium in Potchefstroom, was an evening of mixed fortunes. The weather played a huge part as a fierce wind and dust storm caused several events to be cancelled while others were interrupted and completed later in the evening.

WP break Cheetahs in memorable match

The battered and bruised bodies of 22 Western Province (WP) players bore witness on Saturday to an exceptional 34-20 Currie Cup victory for the home side over Free State, who had not been beaten in 14 matches. The blue-and-white jerseys gave the Newlands faithful a spectacle that will be remembered for quite some time.
