Protesters barricade Durban township

Scrap cars, fridges and burning tyres were used to barricade several Durban roads on Monday as about 500 residents demanded that a local ward councillor leave the area. The residents are demanding that an African National Congress (ANC) ward councillor leave his office and move out of the area as he had ”not kept his word on service delivery”.

Policeman fights for life after mall shoot-out

A Durban policeman is undergoing emergency surgery after he was shot twice in the chest while trying to apprehend armed robbers fleeing a crime scene, police said on Thursday. Four armed robbers hit the Beverley Jewellery store at the Pavilion mall in Westville at about 10am and Detective Andre Mostert of the Berea police station intervened.

Durban policeman arrested for rape

A policeman has been arrested for allegedly raping a sex worker, Durban police said on Monday. The man, together with a colleague, picked up the woman in a police vehicle, Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said. ”The officer then dropped off his colleague and drove to a secluded spot in the Brighton Beach area where he raped her.”

Hijackers run rampant on KZN North Coast

A man was wounded and a woman and two good Samaritans robbed of their vehicles amid a high-speed chase on the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) North Coast, police said on Wednesday. Superintendent Vincent Mdunge said a woman was hijacked and robbed of her Nissan Almera in Mandini, near the Tugela River, on Tuesday night.
