Ice-cool Zach Johnson held off late challenges by fellow Americans David Toms and Charles Howell III to win the Sony Open by two shots on Sunday.
Germany’s Bernhard Langer rolled back the years with a vintage display while American Kenny Perry eked out a one-shot lead in the Players Championship second round on Friday. Langer sank a monster birdie putt from 60 feet on the treacherous 17th green en route to a sparkling five-under-par 67.

United States Open winner Angel Cabrera forced a play-off with an 18th-hole eagle, then birdied the third extra hole on Wednesday to beat Irishman Padraig Harrington and capture the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. The 38-year-old Argentine veteran fired his second consecutive two-under par 68 at the four-man, 36-hole showdown.

British Open champion Padraig Harrington had little time to enjoy the turquoise coastline below the Mid-Ocean Club, struggling to a three-under 67 and a one-shot lead on Tuesday in the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. ”I was struggling with my game, so my head was very much down,” Harrington said.

The Americans have stormed back, Mickelson and Austin setting the pace with a crushing win and the US leading in all four other matches.

Three tense last-hole foursomes triumphs on Thursday sparked the United States to a 5½ to ½ edge over the Internationals at the Presidents Cup, matching the largest first-session lead in its history. The Americans nabbed the biggest first-session edge since they grabbed 5-0 leads on their way to victories over their non-European rivals in 1994 and 2000.

Tiger Woods maintained his three-shot lead at the Tour Championship after resisting a glut of low scoring on Saturday, spearheaded by United States Masters champion Zach Johnson with a dazzling 10-under-par 60. Woods, hunting a seventh PGA Tour title this year and inaugural FedExCup honours, fired a 64 in the third round at a sun-drenched East Lake Golf Club.
