Latakia

Syrian tanks and navy ships have shelled Latakia, rights groups say, killing 24 people as President Bashar al-Assad’s forces try to quell protests.

Armoured vehicles entered the port city of Latakia and a village near Lebanon on Saturday, activists said, causing residents to flee.
