NEGLIGENT AMBULANCE PERSONNEL SUSPENDED

A NURSE and ambulance driver suspected of negligence after a pregnant woman fell out of the back of a speeding ambulance and died, have been suspended from work. Northern Province health MEC Sello Moloto said on Thursday that the nurse and driver from Tintsaolo Hospital in Acornhoek, were given compulsory leave on Wednesday and immediately served with letters of suspension. They will appear before a formal internal disciplinary hearing on May 18. Refiloe Masia, 28, of Greenvalley, a mother of two, was killed at about 2am on Monday morning when she fell out the back doors of the ambulance onto the tarred road about 7km from the hospital. She suffered severe head wounds. The baby also died. Moloto has instructed his department to help Masia’s family with her funeral arrangements.
