Cope policy document expected next week

The Congress of the People’s (Cope) long-awaited policy document is expected to be unveiled on Tuesday after plans to do so on Friday were cancelled.

Cope organiser Palesa Morudu said the document still had to be presented to the provinces before it could be released.

They had planned to brief the media on the document on Friday.

The movement, which is to be officially launched as a party later this month, has had to fend off criticism for not being able to provide a policy document.

It was formed primarily from a breakaway of high-ranking African National Congress members Mosuioa Lekota, Mluleki George and Mbhazima Shilowa.

A policy document sets out a political party’s goals and aspirations, and informs potential supporters ahead of an election of its stance and plans on a range of issues such as health, job creation and education. — Sapa
