It’s no wonder caretaker coach Clive Barker can ”hardly wait” to get away from Bush Bucks next week and back to his base in Durban after the Premier Soccer League (PSL) wooden-spoonists slumped to another defeat against a rampant Silver Stars in East London on Wednesday night.
Stars, who recently embarrassed Kaizer Chiefs by scoring four goals in an away 4-2 victory, repeated the goal avalanche and moved into third place in the log with a 4-1 victory.
”The team without a home” demonstrated their prowess in away games and snapped up their scoring opportunities with an aplomb that could be the envy of some of the more glamorous sides in the PSL.
Defender Oupa Radebe showed he was as capable as anyone of putting the ball into the back of the net by recording his first-ever goal for Stars in the ninth minute and adding a second for good measure in the 72nd minute to make the score 3-1.
Bhekitemba Nkosi’s 36th-minute piledriver gave Stars a 2-0 lead in the 36th minute, and even the goal with which Bucks reduced the deficit four minutes before the interval was immersed in controversy.
Mhlonishwa Mbambo’s shot thudded against the underside of the crossbar and appeared to bounce back into play without crossing the goal line, but the referee ruled otherwise and gave Bucks a lifeline.
Stars, however, continued their resolute play in the second half and rounded off a workmanlike performance when Dingane Masanabo lobbed the ball into the roof of the net for his team’s fourth goal in the 89th minute.
Stars, in the process, equalled second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns’ points tally of 31 in the log, although they have played two extra matches.
Bush Bucks, with only two wins from their 18 games, remain rock-bottom on 14 points. — Sapa
