Thami ka Plaatjie’s wife among dead after N1 crash

The wife of Pan Africanist Movement’s (PAM) president Thami ka Plaatjie was among the dead following an accident involving a minibus taxi on the N1 highway, Plaaitjie said on Saturday.

Cynthia Ntombe ka Plaatjie (42) was driving her car which collided with a taxi on the N1 highway near Sebokeng, just outside the Vaal toll Plaza, on Friday.

The accident left another four dead and 16 injured, two of them critically.

”She was a simple, quiet person who didn’t want to talk much but did so much,” Plaatjie said.

Cynthia Ntombe ka Plaatjie was born in 1966 in Orlando East. She received a BA honours in economics.

She was working with the Gauteng provincial government, and was on her way to work at the time of her death.

Plaatjie described his wife as a person who was a good organiser and always keen to help others. She had ”adopted” some needy families in the area.

”The news of [the] death of Sis Ntombi must be received with sense of determination to emulate the exemplary role she played to support her leader husband,” said PAM spokesperson Khulile Komsana.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, followed by the funeral in the Vaal on Saturday. – Sapa
