South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall has been officially reprimanded for breaching the International Cricket Council (ICC) code of conduct during the third day of his country’s first Test match against England.
Hall was found guilty of gesturing towards the pavilion in an aggressive manner upon the dismissal of England captain Michael Vaughan on Sunday, a level-one offence, after the charge against him was brought by Australian on-field umpires Darrell Hair and Simon Taufel and South African third umpire Ian Howell.
”Players are not permitted to gesture towards the pavilion in such a manner, and although Mr Hall provided an explanation of his actions I found him in breach of the ICC Code,” said match referee Clive Lloyd, the former West Indies captain.
Hall’s punishment is the minimum Lloyd could impose for a level-one offence, where the maximum sanction is 50% of a player’s match fee. The all-rounder has no right of appeal against the ruling.
At stumps on Monday’s fourth day at St George’s Park, England were 93 for three in their second innings, needing 49 more runs to win and go 1-0 up in the five-match series. — Sapa-AFP
