AWB leader Eugene Terre’Blanche and his organisation have been written off by an authoritative British publication. In a special report on the AWB, Jane’s Intelligence Review says ”there can be no doubt that for all his bellicose and theatrical war-talk Terre’Blanche has had his bluff called.
”He has failed dismally to lead his volk into battle and nowhere is that failure more evident than in the behaviour of the AWB’s rank and file.”
About this rank and file, Jane’s comments: ”Disillusioned and dejected, many of his supporters are returning to their former towns and cities where they will have to pick up the pieces of their shattered aspirations.”
But while Jane’s Intelligence Review may have written Terre’ Blanche off, comments like these do not seem to have subdued the irrepressible leader.
Speaking in Uitenhage last week during his first public appearances since the election, Terre’Blanche vowed that the AWB will physically fetch the executor of three AWB members in Bophutatswana if the perpetrator is not brought to justice very soon.
Addressing a less than half full town hall, Terre’Blanche warned that ”the icing sugar of the Kempton Park baked cake was melting” and that chaos was inevitable.
”But the AWB has fully prepared for this. We will use that moment to rise and regain our volk’s freedom,” he told an applauding 300 supporters.
