THE Inkatha Freedom Party recently celebrated its kwaZulu/Natal election victory at Mphusheni on the South Coast by feasting on stolen ANC cattle.
IFP leader Mangosuthu Buthelezi was the keynote speaker at the rally, local residents said.
They said several ANC-supporting families from nearby Adam’s Mission had had their cattle stolen before the celebration three weeks ago. Local IFP leader “A1” Khuzwayo retrieved some of them and returned them to their owners.
Said one resident: “In anticipation of an attack by those who stole my cattle, my family and I are already sleeping in the bush — with small children.”
Police spokesman Warrant Officer BN Dlamini confirmed that some residents had laid charges of stock theft and said police are investigating.
The IFP’s Khuzwayo on Monday denied any knowledge of the incident, but on Wednesday confirmed that he had helped retrieve cattle.
