New boss of Zim airlines

MONDAY, 11.00AM

AIR ZIMBABWE finally has a new chief executive from today, a year after the previous CE was fired by Robert Mugabe. Irish airline expert Brendon Donohoe, who has worked previously in Africa, takes over for two years following an agreement reached between the troubled national airline and Air Consult International (ACI) of Dublin, Ireland.

ACI will provide consultancy services to assist the airline to commercialise its business, advise on management and make it profitable. Meanwhile, the ministry of transport and energy is finalising legislation to repeal the Air Zimbabwe act and privatise the airline.

Donohoe has 33 years experience in the industry. His appointment is a blow to Singapore, which has been pushing for Donohoe to take over at the helm of its own national airline. President Robert Mugabe and Singaporean Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong met to discuss Singapore’s interest in the airline in March.
