TUESDAY, 9.00AM:
IF eleventh-seed Amanda Coetzer beats second-seed Steffi Graf in their French Open quarterfinal match on Wednesday, Graf could slip one position in the rankings. The five-time winner of the French Open was beaten hollow by South African Coetzer at the German Open in Berlin last month, losing 0-6, 1-6.
Graf said on Tuesday about Coetzer: “She is very consistent. She doesn’t make mistakes. It’s either you make the points or you make the mistakes. She is not really somebody who forces the shot. She uses the court very well and is very quick on her feet.”
Third-seed Monica Seles will move up one ranking if Graf loses this match, and if Seles wins her quarterfinal meeting with Mary Joe Fernandez.
