Protector: ‘Sarafina offered good lessons’

ONLY $3,5m OF MOBUTU’S LOOT FOUND SWISS banks have found only $3,5-million in assets held by ousted Zairean dictator Mobutu Sese Seko, who siphoned off billions during his 30-year rule. The assets so far found include foreign shares, bonds, securities and a safe deposit box yet to be opened. The discoveries were made after a search order by the Swiss government. The assets have been frozen.

SWAZI HOTEL RAZED THE Swazi Inn, one of Swaziland’s oldest and most famous hotels, was destroyed by fire on Monday. Firemen only arrived half an hour after the blaze began and lacked the equipment to beat back the flames. No one was injured, but all property, including furniture and wages for staff, were destroyed.

DP-IFP HOLD HANDS THE Democratic Party and Inkatha Freedom Party ended exploratory talks on Tuesday with a statement that the parties will increase co-operation in Parliament, provincial legislatures and local government. The parties vigorously discounted the possibility of a full merger.
