ON Thursday, the Premier Basketball League will start its new season as planned at Wembley, after Basketball South Africa and Premier Basketball League met and resolved their differences over who is in control of the league.
The National Sports Council acted as a mediator and it was agreed that Basketball South Africa will remain in control of amateur and professional basketball, and Premier Basketball League will manage the league on commercial principles.
Two new committees were established. The interim management committee will be responsible for the day-to-day running of the league, and the restructuring committee will finalise the the incorporation of the Premier Basketball League into Basketball South Africa. Both committees consist of six members, three from each body.

BARI BORROWS MASINGA SOUTH African striker Phil Masinga has moved to Italian Serie A team Bari after a season with Serie B team Salernitana. Bari signed a one-year loan contract with Masinga but have an option of extending to a three-year contract and buying him outright.
SAB DROPS RUGBY SOUTH African Breweries (SAB) will not renew its sponsorship of the national rugby team. SAB announced on Thursday it has decided to withdraw the sponsorship because it had to “reassess its position in the light of increasing financial demands in the sponsorship arena”.
U21s TO OZ THE South African under-21 rugby team leaves for Australia on Friday, to play in the Southern Hemisphere tournament. The team includes two Springboks and two Emerging Springboks. They will play their first match against Australia on July 19, New Zealand on July 23 and Argentina three days later.
