Affirmative action gets nod

R17m ROBBERS FOUND

POLICE have discovered the lair belonging to the gang that robbed a security van of R17m last week, and arrested four gang members. The 15-man gang lay low in a house in southern Johannesburg for a week after the heist in which two security guards were murdered. Police have recovered R630 000 in cash in two bags stowed in a ceiling. The search for the rest of the gang continues.

RUGBY ULTIMATUM

THE SA Rugby Football Union has given the government task team investigating irregularities a deadline of August 15 to present any evidence — or face a court order demanding details of the probe. Rugby officials say they have had no contact with the task team for five months, yet a “cloud of suspicion” remains over the union.

ZIM-SA PACT

TRADE AND INDUSTRY minister Alex Erwin was in Zimbabwe on Tuesday to finalise a new agreement on a “most favoured nation” pact. He said agreement had now been reached on agricultural products, which would be submitted to the governments of both countries.
