Worcester bomber won’t talk

MONDAY, 6.00PM

TEENAGE rightwinger Stephanus Coetzee, sentenced to 40 years in jail a fortnight ago for his part in the Christmas Eve bomb blasts in Worcester, has refused to testify against his fellow accused.

Johannes van der Westhuizen, Cliffie Barnard and Abraham Myburgh have pleaded not guilty to murder charges related to the bomb blasts, which killed four people and injured 50 in a busy shopping centre. The three are being tried separately from Coetzee, who pleaded guilty.

Brought in today as a witness, Coetzee refused to discuss the bomb blasts. “I’ve already been found guilty,” he said. “Because we planted the bombs they call us terrorists.”

Asked why, he said: “Because we are against the country. It’s part of the Worcester thing, and I’m not going to answer.”
