Brosnihan in ‘Bok squad

MONDAY, 10.10AM:

GAUTENG Lions loose forward Warren Brosnihan has been drafted into the Springbok squad for next month’s tour of Europe and the United Kingdom next month. Brosnihan replaces Western Provinces’ Corne Krige, who was injured in the Bankfin Currie Cup final against Free State on Saturday.

Springbok coach Nick Mallett said: “Corne’s injury is a big blow, especially with Ruben Kruger (broken ankle) also sidelined. Both are specialist No 6 flankers and it will be difficult to replace both of them.”

Brosnihan, who tore ligaments in that game, may be out for nine months. Mallett said Brosnihan will fit in well in the squad as he was one of the players in the shortlist. “It’s a case of one man’s loss is another one man’s gain,” said Mallett reffering to Brosnihan’s inclussion in the squad.
