THURSDAY, 9.40AM:
SOUTH AFRICAN paceman Alan Donald will not be coming home to rest during the duration of the on-day tournament as reported last week. The South African camp have had a change of heart following Brian McMillan’s return to South Africa yesterday.
South African convenor of the national selection panel Peter Pollock said last week Donald would be coming home for a break in advance of the Australian Tour which starts next month. It was expected that Donald would rejoin the team on their way to Australia.
“He decided he was not tired and still fresh enough to stay on so he asked the tour management to let him play in the one days,” said United Cricket Board of South Africa MD Ali Bacher. “We have agreed to his request to stay on with the team.”
Donald is likely to play an important part in the first match against Pakistan on Sunday.
