Montgomery to play fullback

WEDNESDAY, 8.55AM:

PERCY Montgomery will again play at fullback for the Springboks in the second test against France this week. First choice, No 15 Justin Swart, who injured himself at training prior to the first test against France, has fully recovered but is not well enough to play in Saturday’s game.

Coach Nick Mallett said: “I have always had utmost confidence in Montgomery as a fullback. The strong role he played on attack (in the first test) was expected. He is an extremely explosive runner and a marvelously talented player.” Mallet is said to have preffered Montgomery even before the tour.

It seems unlikely that there will be any changes except at scrumhalf where Werner Swanepoel will replace the injured Joost van der Westhuizen. “Much our time will be devoted to getting Swanepoel fit to our game, but he is a talented player and we have every confidence in his ability to do the job we expect of him,” added Mallett.
