Eight midweek Boks come home

THURSDAY, 9.05AM:

SPRINGBOK coach Nick Mallett has trimmed his squad to 26 and sent eight members of the squad home. “A lot of the midweek guys must go home disappointed with their efforts,” said Mallet.

Justin Swart or Thinus Delport, Joe Gillingham, Breyton Paulse, Boeta Wessels. Ollie le Roux, Wium Basson, Dale Santon and Warren Brosnihan will travel with the squad to London on Sunday and go home the next day.

The only doubt is over fullback Justin Swart, who suffered a hamstring injury in training that kept him out of the first Test against France in Lyon and also will rule him out of Saturday’s second and final Test. He will undergo a fitness test on Saturday morning. If he passes it he will remain with the squad for England and Scotland but if he fails Thinus Delport will take his place.

Meanwhile, Werner Swanepoel will start the match for the first time on Saturday and Dan van Zyl will take his place on the bench.

THE SQUAD:

Percy Montgmery; James Small, Andre Snyman, Dick Muir, Pieter Rossouw; Henry Honiball, Werner Swanepoel; Gary Teichmann (captain), Andre Venter, Johan Erasmus, Krynauw Otto, Mark Andrews, Adrian Garvey, James Dalton, Os du Randt Reserves: Jannie de Beer, Dan van Zyl, Andrew Aitken, Braam Els, Naka Drotske, Dawie Theron.
