Now it’s poisoned pizzas

THURSDAY, 3:30PM:

Police in Cape Town said today that alleged drug dealers who claimed at the weekend that there was poison in their takeaway pizzas were right. Preliminary tests on the odd slice of two pizzas delivered to two men and a woman in Woodstock revealed traces of pesticide – a granular powder called aldicarb.

The three – who landed in hospital with stomach cramps – ate portions of the pizzas, even though they said the pizzas had smelled odd and were covered with fine black powder.

According to pizza outlet employees, two men ordered the pizzas, “re-arranged” the slices and then handed them back for delivery.

So far no-one has been blamed for tampering with the food. A spokesman for the vigilante group People Against Gangsterism and Drugs (Pagad), which has been waging war against drug dealers, said the group has no knowledge of the incident.
